It is important to note however, that such harassment does not have to be sexual in nature, as it can also include non-sexual acts such as making offensive remarks about a person's sex in general. For example, it is illegal to harass a woman by repeatedly making offensive comments about women in the workplace.

Just as the grounds for sexual harassment can come in many forms, so can the alleged harasser. That is to say, the alleged harasser can be anyone from victim's supervisor to a supervisor in another department, or even a co-worker, or someone who isn't an employee of the employer at all, such as a client or customer.
